Nokia fans who believed in the mythological Mini N97 may have gotten their due: Images of the rumored phone have popped up in a side-by-side with the original. Take the full-fledged N97, put it in the dryer and shrink it a size or two, and that’s pretty much what this Mini looks like at first glance.

While handset shipments fall, smartphones and high-end devices do well in Q2

Research firm IDC says cell phone manufacturers shipped 270 million units globally in the second quarter, down 10 percent from 302 million units in the same quarter of last year. Smartphone sales, however, have been strong. The firm says that Nokia, Samsung, LG Electronics, Research In Motion, and Apple all beat expectations for their high-end devices and that the competition will healthily lower prices on those devices

Quickoffice announces 6.2 version for S60 3rd and 5th Editions, offers free upgrades

Quickoffice announced yesterday that it has released version 6.2 of its mobile office suite for S60 3rd Edition and, for the first time, 5th Edition smartphones, according to a press release. In addition, Nokia devices that came bundled with Quickoffice will receive a free upgrade to the latest version of the software. Quickoffice lets Nokia users view and edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files.
